SERED

The Solar Energy for Rural Electrification and Development (SERED) Project is a collaboration     between SunPower Corporation and Winrock International under the auspices of the USAID Global Development Alliance (GDA)  It is intended to strengthen solar energy market development in the Philippines and support the use of solar energy for rural electrification, including high-value social applications such as school electrification to enable rural distance education, communications and others.  SERED builds on the success of the USAID-funded Alliance for Mindanao Off-Grid Renewable Energy (AMORE) program, implemented by Winrock International  from 2002-2005, as well as activities of the ongoing follow-on AMORE 2 program, which is aimed at supporting electrification of at least 200 communities mainly the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and other poor, conflict-affected regions in the country, and includes a significant focus on use of renewable energy to support key rural social services such as education, communications, and potable water supply.
