- Supporting expansion of service to additional households in existing AMORE barangays. Winrock will identify the more promising AMORE barangays in which to support expansion of services to at least 900 additional households.
- Supporting electrification of additional barangays in Mindanao and elsewhere. Winrock and SunPower will work to identify and electrify 5 new barangays using Solar Home System during the life of the project. The electrification of new barangays will be a very modest activity, as opposed to the above-described expansion of service in barangays already partially served under AMORE. Target communities will be very carefully selected to ensure that there are favorable factors permitting their electrification with reduced preparation costs.
- Supporting strengthening of the solar energy supply chain, and innovative private sector energy service delivery options. Winrock and SunPower will identify and provide support to local companies and entrepreneurs that desire to enter the solar energy equipment supply business or strengthen their ability to sell, design, install, and service solar energy systems or use solar energy systems to provide rural energy services. Selected companies, entrepreneurs, and individuals will also be provided training and technical assistance on both PV technical issues such as system design, sizing, maintenance, and repair, and on business aspects of operating a solar energy company or microenterprise. Winrock will also work to develop innovative PV-based rural energy service and/or equipment supply approaches, such as energy system leasing or provision of systems on a monthly fee basis, working with AMORE BRECDAs to the fullest extent possible.
- Supporting rural education in Mindanao as a side-benefit of the electrification activities. SERED will provide power systems to at least 40 rural schools and community learning centers in barangays lacking formal schools, and through other means of delivering education-related benefits to rural communities. This will be done in coordination with partners such as Knowledge Channel, e-Media, Education and Livelihood Skills Alliance (ELSA).
